12 UK Energy Firms to Slash Bills by £150: Full List of Suppliers
12 Energy Suppliers Giving £150 Discount to Customers

Millions of households across Great Britain are set to receive a welcome reduction on their energy bills, as twelve major suppliers have confirmed they will pass on a government-mandated discount. The move, which will see a £150 cut applied to bills, involves key players including British Gas, EDF, Eon Next, Octopus Energy, and OVO.

Which Suppliers Are Participating?

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) stated on Wednesday 17 December 2025 that it expects savings to be passed on in full to all customers from 1 April 2026. This includes those on fixed tariffs agreed before that date.

According to reports from Money Saving Expert, the following providers have so far confirmed they will give the discount:

  • 100Green
  • British Gas
  • Co-op Energy (see Octopus Energy)
  • E (Gas and Electricity)
  • Ecotricity
  • E.ON Next
  • EDF
  • Home Energy
  • Octopus Energy
  • OVO
  • Sainsbury’s Energy
  • Utilita

Furthermore, Good Energy, Scottish Power, and Utility Warehouse have indicated their intention to participate but are awaiting final details from the government.

Martin Lewis Raises Transparency Concerns

Consumer champion and BBC/ITV star Martin Lewis has welcomed the government's push for all firms to follow suit but has highlighted potential issues with implementation. He expressed concern over a lack of transparency if companies choose to incorporate the saving into new fixed tariffs launched before the 1 April deadline.

"It isn't transparent – we can't see any change. How do we know they've done it and not just priced higher knowing this?" Lewis questioned. He argued that this method makes price comparisons difficult between suppliers.

Lewis is advocating for a clear, consistent approach where all providers apply the visible reduction on 1 April 2026, ensuring customers can easily see and trust the saving.

Important Exceptions and Next Steps

It is crucial for consumers to note that the scheme, linked to the Energy Company Obligation (ECO), does not apply to households in Northern Ireland. Therefore, residents there will not receive this specific £150 discount.

Customers of the participating suppliers do not need to take immediate action. The reduction should be applied automatically. However, it is advisable to keep an eye on communications from your energy provider in the lead-up to April 2026 for confirmation of how the discount will be applied to your account.

The widespread adoption of this discount by major suppliers marks a significant, though debated, step in providing direct financial relief to bill-payers amid ongoing cost-of-living pressures.
