Octopus Energy's £145 Heating Tip: Set Your Thermostat & Save
Octopus Energy's £145 Heating Tip for Homes

Octopus Energy is advising its customers on a straightforward adjustment to their home heating that could lead to substantial savings of up to £145 on their annual energy costs.

The Simple Thermostat Tweak for Big Savings

The energy supplier has highlighted that constantly adjusting your thermostat, using it as an on/off switch or for quick boosts, can actually waste more energy. Instead, they recommend a 'set and forget' approach for improved comfort and efficiency.

Setting your thermostat between 18-21°C is ideal for most homes, according to the company's guidance. Crucially, they note that turning down your thermostat by just one degree could save households up to £145 on their energy bills.

Smart Heating Solutions for Enhanced Efficiency

For those seeking more advanced control, Octopus Energy points toward smart heating solutions from tado° as a way to heat more efficiently without sacrificing comfort. These systems can replace conventional thermostats, underfloor heating controls, or gas boiler controls.

Control becomes straightforward through the tado° app or integration with popular smart home systems like Apple HomeKit, Google Home, or Alexa Smart Home. The smart system can automatically detect when you've left home and adjust the heating accordingly, then warm up your residence before you return.

Additional intelligent features include open window detection, which prompts you to adjust your heating, and automated regulation based on your schedule or preferences.

Getting Started with Smart Heating

For those interested in the tado° X system, which works with the Matter smart home standard, Octopus notes that a compatible Thread Border Router may eliminate the need for a Bridge X. Alternatively, a tado° X Starter Kit or additional Bridge X will handle the internet connection.

All Starter Kits include the tado° Internet Bridge that connects to your router, enabling wireless communication with the Smart Thermostat and remote control via the tado° app.

This advice comes at a timely moment as households across the UK look for ways to manage energy consumption and reduce costs during the winter months and ahead of the Christmas period.
