Bristol Brewery's Alcohol-Free IPA Wins Global Gold Medal
An alcohol-free beer crafted near Bristol has achieved international acclaim, securing the top prize at a prestigious worldwide competition. Butcombe Brewing Co's Goram IPA Zero earned a gold medal at the 2026 World Alcohol-Free Awards, distinguishing it as the finest alcohol-free IPA globally.
Rigorous Judging Process and Strong Competition
The awards, established in 2022 by former Michelin-starred drinks buyer Chrissie Parkinson and writer Chris Losh, exclusively evaluate beverages with an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 0.5% or lower. This year's event saw over 400 entries from 20 countries, including alcohol-free beers, wines, spirits, aperitivos, teas, and functional drinks. A panel of specialist judges from the UK, Europe, and the US conducted blind tastings to ensure impartial assessments.
In a statement, the judges highlighted the beer's exceptional quality: "Through two rounds of judging – and tasted blind – all our beer judges consistently loved this drink and it thoroughly deserved its gold medal. The beer section of the competition was especially strong this year, so to pick up a top award was a real achievement. To do it for the second time in four years just reinforces how consistently good an all-round brew Goram IPA Zero is."
Consistent Excellence and Growing Popularity
Goram IPA Zero has solidified its reputation as one of the most decorated alcohol-free beers in the UK, amassing six major accolades over the past two years. Brewed with eight hop varieties, it offers a rich flavor profile that appeals to a broad audience. Its popularity is surging, particularly within the running community, thanks to Butcombe Group's partnerships with Maverick Trail Races and London Marathon events.
Jayson Perfect, Butcombe Group's chief operating officer, expressed pride in the achievement: "We’re incredibly proud to see Goram IPA Zero take home another gold at these prestigious world-renowned awards. The team has worked hard to create an alcohol-free beer that doesn’t compromise on flavour, and this award is a brilliant recognition of that. With more drinkers choosing great-tasting alcohol-free options, it’s fantastic to see Goram IPA Zero leading the way."
Recent Business Success and Market Performance
This accolade follows a period of robust performance for Butcombe Group, which reported exceptional sales in its first full year under its new brand name. The Wrington-based group, previously known as Liberation, attributed its success to strategic investments in its estate, especially in accommodation, allowing it to outperform the broader market through January.
The recognition at the World Alcohol-Free Awards not only celebrates the brewery's commitment to quality but also underscores the growing demand for premium alcohol-free beverages. As consumer preferences shift towards healthier options, Butcombe Brewing Co continues to set a high standard in the industry, reinforcing Bristol's status as a hub for innovative brewing.
