Cranbrook Pupils Plant 90+ Trees to Green Their Campus and Future
Cranbrook pupils plant over 90 trees on school grounds

Pupils at a Devon school have taken a hands-on approach to improving their local environment by planting a small forest on their grounds.

Digging In for a Greener Future

More than 90 young trees now have a new home at Cranbrook Education Campus (CEC) in Exeter, thanks to the efforts of its dedicated students. The school's Eco Team joined forces with the Pay It Forward Team for the planting day, where they learned practical skills and the significant environmental benefits that trees provide.

This initiative is a direct action to brighten the campus landscape and demonstrates how small, positive steps can create tangible change. The new saplings contribute to the school's expanding tree collection, reinforcing CEC's pledge to care for its immediate surroundings and the broader ecosystem.

Building on a Legacy of Environmental Care

The tree-planting event is the latest in a series of green projects undertaken by the school. Earlier this year, CEC's efforts were recognised with a Bronze Award from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB).

As part of the Ted Wragg Trust, the campus is working towards an ambitious long-term vision: to plant one tree for every student. This goal will eventually create a thriving woodland area on site, offering vital support for local wildlife and enhancing the wellbeing of the entire school community.

Leadership Praise for Pupil Enthusiasm

Stephen Farmer, Head of Campus at CEC, expressed his pride in the students' work. "Seeing our pupils out on the field with spades in hand, working together and taking real pride in improving their surroundings, is exactly what our school is all about," he said. "Their enthusiasm for helping the environment shows the strength of our community and the care our young people have for the world around them."

Moira Marder, CEO of the Ted Wragg Trust, also commended the project. "This is a wonderful example of how our schools empower young people to make a positive difference," she stated. "By planting these trees, Cranbrook pupils are not only improving their campus but also helping to build a stronger, greener future for their community. It’s inspiring to see young people leading the way."

The activity underscores a growing commitment within education to combine learning with direct environmental action, fostering a sense of responsibility and hope in the next generation.
