Lion Cub Triplets at West Midlands Safari Park Celebrate First Birthday with Cake Smash
Three lion cubs at West Midlands Safari Park have celebrated a significant milestone in a uniquely playful style, marking their first birthday with a delightful cake smash. The cubs, named Nero, Nox, and Nancy, were treated to a special three-tier zebra-print cardboard cake by their keepers, filled with chunks of their favourite meat snacks.
A Birthday Bash with a Wild Twist
The cubs arrived on April 13, 2025, to their mother, 12-year-old Amber, who quickly stole the show by being the first to rip into the cake, demonstrating typical feline curiosity. Kasha Carter, head of carnivores at the park, explained that this celebration serves as an enrichment activity, encouraging natural behaviours while commemorating a special occasion for the pride.
Personalities Shine Through
During the event, the cubs displayed their distinct personalities. Nero confidently investigated the cake first, while Nox and Nero, though smaller than their mother, managed to secure some tasty treats for themselves. Nancy, being more cautious, preferred to watch the chaos unfold from a distance.
Family Bonds and Park Highlights
The cubs remain closely bonded with their mother Amber and the rest of the pride. Guests can view them, along with their father Tsavo and sister Hernatty, on the Safari Drive-Through. Additionally, their older brothers Hodge, Havoc, and Harabi, along with half-brother Hercules, can be seen on Lion Ridge in the Safari Walk area.
This celebration not only highlights the growth and development of these young lions but also underscores the park's commitment to providing engaging and naturalistic experiences for its animals.
