MAFS Australia Star Bec Zacharia Shares Personal Journey with Reconstructive Jaw Surgery
Married at First Sight Australia's Bec Zacharia, one of the show's most talked-about brides, has opened up about a deeply personal medical journey. The reality television personality revealed she was born with a significant chin defect and underwent reconstructive jaw surgery at age 21 to correct it.
Surgery Performed by Family Member
The transformative procedure was performed by her uncle, Dr. Michael Zacharia, a prominent Australian plastic surgeon whose clientele includes numerous high-profile individuals. Viewers of MAFS Australia may recall Dr. Zacharia from Bec's televised wedding day, where he attended his niece's ceremony.
"I was actually born with a jaw, sort of a chin defect," Bec explained in an interview with the Daily Mail. "Everyone makes comments about why is my mouth like this or what's wrong with my jaw, but Uncle Michael had to give me reconstructive jaw surgery when I was 20 or 21."
Life-Changing Transformation
Bec described the profound impact the surgery had on both her appearance and self-confidence. "Without him doing that for me, I looked a lot different," she shared. "I'm so happy that I've got this sort of jaw and chin now what he's done for me, because before that it was really bad."
The reality star explained that for most of her life before the surgery, she avoided wearing her hair up due to insecurity about her jawline. "For my whole life up until my 20s, it was rare that you would see me with my hair up, because I hated my jaw and my chin so much," she revealed. "I was born with essentially no chin."
Future Cosmetic Procedures
Bec confirmed that if she pursues any future cosmetic enhancements, she will return to her uncle's care. "When the time comes, I'll be going to him," she stated. "I really want my nose done, but he says I'm not allowed to."
The revelation comes amid Bec's controversial stint on Married at First Sight Australia, during which she has faced significant public scrutiny and even lost her job due to her behavior on the program. Her openness about the reconstructive surgery provides context to her personal journey beyond the reality television narrative.
