Joyce Pridgeon, a beloved resident at Louth Manor care home in Louth, Lincolnshire, has joined the exclusive centenarian club after celebrating her 100th birthday on June 17 with a memorable party. Staff and fellow residents treated her like royalty, organizing an afternoon celebration with her close family, a buffet spread, and a custom birthday cake prepared by the home's head chef.
A Life Well Lived
Born in 1926 in Worlaby near Brigg, Joyce grew up in Great Limber with her two sisters and brother. She worked as a housemaid at Little Brocklesby House, a role she remembers fondly. At age 29, she married farmer Norman Pridgeon from Alvingham. Together they lived on a farm, raising daughters Diana and Jill, and later welcoming four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Joyce has been devoted to family and enjoyed gardening, tapestry making, and sports, especially tennis, which she played in her younger years.
Secrets to Longevity
Joyce shared her thoughts on reaching 100: “I think it is remarkable to have reached this milestone. I don’t have a specific secret, but I will say you should always look your best, be determined and take each day as it comes. Having a good husband and loving family helps too!”
Lucy Blackburn, home manager at Louth Manor, added: “Joyce’s 100th birthday was a true celebration of her remarkable life. She is such a cherished member of our community and it was wonderful to be able to mark this special day with her. Her sense of humour and can-do attitude have always been an inspiration to everyone here. At Louth Manor, we believe it’s so important to recognise and honour these special moments, and Joyce’s birthday was certainly one that deserved a real celebration. It was an absolute pleasure to help make the day extra special for her and her loved ones.”
