Residents at a specialist farm in West Sussex experienced a truly enchanting festive treat when a professional pantomime cast paid them a special visit in full costume.
A Magical Afternoon of Song and Sparkle
On Thursday, December 11, the cast of Cinderella from the Chequer Mead Theatre arrived at Duckyls Farm, near East Grinstead. The performers, in their full theatrical costumes, brought the magic of the stage directly to the adults supported by the Diagrama Foundation.
The visit was filled with entertainment, including songs from the popular pantomime, classic Christmas carols, and the unique sparkle that only a live panto performance can provide. The event transformed the beautiful 100-acre countryside site into a scene of joy and excitement.
Creating Unforgettable Community Moments
David McGuire, chief executive of the Diagrama Foundation, expressed profound gratitude for the visit. He stated that the cast's warmth, energy, and generosity crafted an unforgettable festive experience for the individuals they support.
One attendee of the farm's community services, Sophie, shared her delight, saying, "I loved it. All of it. I haven't smiled like that in ages. It was good to talk to the actors - you don't normally get to talk to them one to one."
Callum Donnelly, who plays Buttons in the production, emphasised the importance of such community engagement. "Pantomime is all about community," he said, noting how local communities feel a strong connection to their local panto. The cast enjoyed touring the farm, meeting the animals, and joining in songs and games, promising they "100% will be back."
Supporting Independence Through Unique Farm Care
Duckyls Farm provides both day opportunities and residential care for adults with learning disabilities, physical and sensory impairments, acquired brain injury, and autism. The unique farm setting allows the charity to harness the physical, mental, and social benefits of animal-assisted therapy and nature-based activities.
These experiences are crucial in helping individuals develop skills that promote independence, healthy living, and access to employment. The farm is home to both Diagrama Community Services, a day care provision, and Diagrama Care Home, which offers residential and supported living.
The Chequer Mead Theatre's production of Cinderella runs until January 4, 2026. It includes a relaxed performance on Saturday, December 20, designed for those who benefit from a more supportive environment, including people with autism, learning disabilities, or sensory sensitivities.
