Emergency services were unable to save a woman who died on the M6 motorway, leading to a major road closure for several hours.
Emergency Response on the M6
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the southbound carriageway between junctions 3A and 3, near Coventry, at 5.08pm on Saturday, November 30. The incident prompted a swift multi-agency response.
A passing ambulance, which already had a patient on board, stopped at the scene. They were assisted by an off-duty specialist paramedic from the East Midlands Ambulance Service. Additional resources, including a paramedic officer and a second ambulance, were also dispatched to the location.
Tragic Outcome at the Scene
Despite the rapid arrival of medical professionals, the situation was grave. Paramedics assessed the woman and it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save her life. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed the tragic outcome, stating: "Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save the woman. She was confirmed dead at the scene."
Major Motorway Closure and Reopening
The fatal incident caused significant disruption on one of the UK's busiest transport routes. The M6 southbound was closed for several hours to allow emergency services to work and for initial investigations to take place.
The closure caused extensive delays for Saturday evening traffic. The motorway did not reopen until approximately 10.30pm, more than five hours after the emergency call was first received.
Police have been contacted for further comment regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
