Rachel Reeves' £200 Summer Cost-of-Living Payments: How to Claim

Households struggling with the cost of living can now apply for new payments worth up to £200 from the government's Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF), Chancellor Rachel Reeves has confirmed. The fund, which replaces the previous Household Support Fund (HSF), is designed to help those facing financial hardship, regardless of whether they claim benefits.

Who Can Apply?

Applications are open to anyone, but priority will be given to those most in need, including parents with young children. Support is aimed at helping with essential costs such as food, gas, and electricity, though all requests will be considered.

How to Claim

Birmingham City Council previously distributed £200 grants under the HSF. The application process for the CRF remains the same. Residents can apply through their local council. However, anyone who has received an HSF payment in the past 12 months is not eligible, and their application will be rejected.

Important Details

The Birmingham Voluntary Service Council, which handles applications on behalf of the city council, stated: "If you or anyone in your household have received an HSF payment within the past 12 months, you will not be eligible. If you are not currently in receipt of any support services including Universal Credit – you may still be eligible for the Crisis Resilience Fund."

Applicants who submitted a successful enquiry since May 1, 2026, have been added to a waiting list. A local team member will contact them using the details provided. The council urged patience due to high demand.
