A dilapidated and graffiti-covered former children's home in Birmingham could be given a new lease of life as a training and treatment centre for healthcare professionals.
A planning application has been submitted to Birmingham City Council to transform the vacant building on Stevens Avenue in Bartley Green. The proposal, submitted on 20th November 2025, aims to breathe new life into the long-disused site.
New Life for a Derelict Site
The ambitious plan outlines a complete repair and renovation of the building, which will significantly improve the overall appearance of the site and the surrounding street. In preparation for the proposed works, the rear of the property has already been cleared of dense vegetation and overgrown trees that had accumulated over many years of neglect.
If approved, the new facility will specialise in clinical healthcare, community mental healthcare, and community outpatient care. It will also provide support and facilitation for social workers and social prescribers, creating a valuable community health resource.
Location and Proposed Amenities
The former council-run children's home is situated in a convenient location, close to a park, a doctor's surgery, a pharmacy, a primary school, and local shops and homes. The planning documents confirm that the rear of the building will be developed into a car park for staff and visitors, providing 12 parking spaces.
Access to the car park will be via a driveway around the north side of the building, which will be fitted with new secure access gates. The application is now awaiting a decision from Birmingham City Council planners at a future date.
