Five people have been hospitalised following reports of eye irritation and coughing at a shopping centre in Nagoya, Japan. The incident occurred on June 8 at approximately 5:30 p.m. local time at Mozo Wonder City in Nishi Ward.
Emergency Response
A security guard at the facility alerted emergency services after multiple individuals began experiencing eye and throat pain. According to Japanese news outlet NHK, police confirmed that five people, including employees and customers, were taken to hospital with mild symptoms and remained conscious.
The shopping centre reported that someone was coughing inside an arcade area on the fourth floor. Authorities, including police and firefighters, are continuing to investigate the cause of the irritation and assess any potential risks.
Evacuation and Closure
In response to the incident, the commercial facility closed the arcade and evacuated those inside. Mozo Wonder City is a large shopping and entertainment complex located about 500 meters from Kami-Otai Station, making it easily accessible by public transport. The complex houses a cinema, restaurants, retail stores, and other businesses, serving as a busy hub for shopping, dining, and leisure activities.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the symptoms, and further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
