DWP's £10 Christmas Bonus: Who Qualifies and How to Get It
DWP £10 Christmas Bonus: Eligibility Guide

Thousands of individuals across the UK receiving support from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) are set to receive a welcome financial boost ahead of the festive season. A one-off, tax-free payment is being issued to eligible claimants, offering a small but significant help during the winter months.

What is the DWP Christmas Bonus?

The Christmas Bonus is a one-off tax-free payment of £10. It is designed to provide a small amount of extra support to people who rely on specific state benefits. The key detail for recipients is that you do not need to make a claim for this payment; it should be paid into your account automatically if you meet the criteria.

The payment will be made from Monday, as the qualifying period, which is typically the first full week of December, begins. To be eligible, you must be present or ‘ordinarily resident’ in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, or Gibraltar during this qualifying week.

Who is Eligible for the Payment?

The bonus is available to anyone who receives at least one of a long list of qualifying benefits during the designated week. The DWP has confirmed that the list includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Adult Disability Payment and Child Disability Payment
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment
  • Attendance Allowance and Constant Attendance Allowance
  • Carer’s Allowance and Carer Support Payment
  • Disability Living Allowance and Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • Incapacity Benefit at the long-term rate
  • Pension Credit (the guarantee element)
  • State Pension (including Graduated Retirement Benefit)
  • Contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance (after the first 13 weeks)

This comprehensive list also covers various industrial injuries and war pensions, ensuring support reaches a wide array of claimants.

How and When Will You Be Paid?

The £10 bonus will be paid directly into the same account where you normally receive your benefits, such as your bank account. When checking your statement, look out for the payment reference ‘DWP XB’.

Payments are made automatically between the start of the qualifying week and January 1. If you believe you are eligible but do not see the payment in your account by this date, it is advisable to contact the DWP. This straightforward process ensures that those who need it most receive this small festive top-up without any extra hassle.
