Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Arrested on Suspicion of Misconduct in Public Office
Thames Valley Police have confirmed the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor at his temporary residence on the Sandringham estate this morning. The arrest was made on suspicion of misconduct in a public office, marking a significant development in an ongoing investigation.
Early Morning Raid at Wood Farm
At least six unmarked vehicles carrying eight plain-clothes officers with police-issue laptops were seen entering Wood Farm around 8am today, February 19. Notably, this date coincides with Andrew's 66th birthday. The officers conducted searches at the property as part of their investigation.
National Crime Agency Involvement
This arrest follows the National Crime Agency announcing it is assisting UK police forces in examining information contained in the Epstein files. The NCA stated it is supporting police to 'enable a full and independent assessment of the information released' from the extensive document collection.
Police Statement and Investigation Details
Thames Valley Police confirmed a man in his sixties from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Officers are currently conducting searches at addresses in both Berkshire and Norfolk as part of their investigation.
Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright stated: 'Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office. It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence. We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.'
Connection to Epstein Files Investigation
Pressure has mounted on the disgraced former prince regarding his connection with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein following the release of three million pages of previously unseen emails, documents and images from the Epstein Files in the United States.
Thames Valley Police have previously stated they are examining several serious allegations, including:
- Claims that a woman was trafficked to the UK by Jeffrey Epstein for a sexual encounter with Andrew
- Allegations that Andrew shared sensitive information with the paedophile while serving as the UK's trade envoy
Revelations from the Epstein Files
The released documents have contained several disturbing revelations, including:
- Supposed emails between Andrew and the convicted paedophile
- A disturbing image of Andrew on all fours over a woman
- Emails that appear to show the former duke sharing reports of official visits to Hong Kong, Vietnam and Singapore with Epstein while serving as trade envoy from 2001 to 2011
Ongoing Police Investigations
This development follows Surrey Police's call for people with information about allegations of human trafficking and sexual assault dating back to 1994, which surfaced in the Epstein files, to come forward. Thames Valley Police have previously mentioned having discussions with specialists from the Crown Prosecution Service regarding the allegations that Andrew shared confidential reports.
Previous Denials and Legal Settlements
Mr Mountbatten-Windsor, the King's brother, has previously strongly denied any wrongdoing. The former prince was stripped of his titles by Charles last year following the posthumous release of a book by Virginia Giuffre, who alleged she was trafficked by Epstein and his former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell when she was 17.
In 2022, Andrew paid millions to Ms Giuffre, a woman he has claimed never to have met, to settle a civil sexual assault claim. This settlement occurred despite his continued denials of any misconduct or inappropriate behavior.
