DWP Announces Early Payment Dates for Universal Credit, PIP, and Attendance Allowance

The Department for Work and Pensions has released fresh information for thousands of claimants receiving Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment, or Attendance Allowance. This update addresses a change in payment dates prompted by the upcoming four-day weekend.

Payment Schedule Adjustments

In a statement posted on X on Wednesday, 1 April, the DWP clarified that claimants due to receive payments on 3 April or 6 April will instead be paid on 2 April. This early payment is a standard practice when scheduled dates fall on weekends or bank holidays, ensuring beneficiaries have access to funds without delay.

The DWP emphasized, "Information for claimants already receiving payments: If you are due to be paid on 3 Apr or 6 Apr, you will be paid on 2 Apr." They also advised recipients to contact the department immediately if any issues arise with their payments.

Standard Payment Procedures

Benefits are typically deposited directly into a bank, building society, or credit union account. Claimants are required to provide these details during the application process. Alternative payment methods are available only for individuals facing difficulties in opening or managing an account.

If you cannot open or manage such an account, it is recommended to contact the office responsible for your benefit payments to explore other options.

Repayment Options for Unneeded Benefits

The DWP also highlighted that claimants can repay benefits or allowances they receive but do not need. To do so, send a cheque made payable to the relevant department, along with your National Insurance number and details of the payment, such as the date and amount. The department's address can be found on any correspondence you have received from them.

This guidance ensures that beneficiaries are well-informed about their payment schedules and options, promoting financial stability and transparency.
