A man has died following a late-night altercation at a popular holiday park in Cornwall, prompting a major police investigation and a referral to the police watchdog.

Officers were called to St Minver Holiday Park, near Wadebridge, at approximately 8pm on Saturday, 30 May, after reports of a physical fight between two men on the Parkdean Resorts site.

A man in his 50s sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Treliske Hospital in Truro, where he tragically died two days later, on 1 June.

Police arrested a man in his 60s on suspicion of wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent. He has been released on bail until 21 August pending further enquiries.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), as there was prior police contact with the deceased. The force stated it is fully cooperating with the investigation.

Sources reported a visible police presence at the park following the incident, including forensic officers and crime scene investigators.

An IOPC spokesperson said: “We can confirm we are independently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man following an incident at a caravan park in Cornwall on 30 May 2026. Devon and Cornwall Police were called to the site near Wadebridge at 8pm after a man aged in his 50s was reported as behaving aggressively. Officers gave first aid and an ambulance was called at around 8.25pm. He was taken to hospital in Truro, where he sadly died on 1 June 2026.”

The IOPC investigation, which is in its early stages, will examine the interactions officers had with the man prior to him becoming unresponsive, as well as the medical care provided by police.

The watchdog added that its thoughts are with the man’s family and friends, and it will explain its role to them as the investigation proceeds.

Parkdean Resorts, which owns St Minver Holiday Park, has been contacted for comment.
