Financially vulnerable families in Surrey can now receive direct help with their essential shopping costs through a new government-supported voucher scheme.
What Support is Available?
The Department for Work and Pensions has allocated funding to Surrey as part of the Household Support Fund, which runs from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026. This marks the seventh round of this vital financial assistance programme.
Eligible families with children will receive a £300 voucher, while single-person households will be granted £200. These vouchers are specifically for purchasing groceries and toiletries, providing crucial support for day-to-day essentials.
Where Can The Vouchers Be Used?
The vouchers can be redeemed at nine major supermarket chains, giving recipients flexibility in where they shop. The participating retailers are:
- Aldi
- Asda
- Farmfoods
- Iceland/The Food Warehouse
- Morrisons
- Sainsbury's
- Tesco
- Waitrose
Important Application Information
Surrey has been allocated £9.3 million for this support scheme, though this represents a 12% reduction compared to previous funding rounds. The local authority has confirmed that financial assistance will be distributed through organisations within the county that identify families in financial crisis.
The council issued an important warning about potential scams: "Criminals will try a variety of methods to gain your personal or banking information so please be aware of who you share your details with. Do not click links or reply to unsolicited texts or emails. Instead, you can contact the organisation directly that provides you with your Household Support Fund."
This support comes at a critical time for many households facing ongoing cost of living pressures, offering direct help with essential food and hygiene purchases through the government's continuing commitment to local welfare support.
