Households can come forward for new summer cost-of-living payments worth hundreds of pounds, made available by local councils as part of the Government's newly launched Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF).
The CRF replaces the Household Support Fund (HSF) and works in a similar way, providing cash grants to those in need without requiring benefit claims.
Who Can Apply?
People in most urgent need of financial support are likely to be prioritised, including parents struggling to pay for essentials like food, gas, and electricity. However, anyone struggling to make ends meet and worried about bills may be eligible for extra cash, so checking with local councils is recommended.
How to Apply
Households need to apply through their local councils, which have started sharing details of the fund. Individual authorities run their schemes in their own ways and decide how much to hand out. Other forms of financial support, such as food vouchers and council tax discounts, may also be available.
Important Information
Birmingham Voluntary Service Council, on behalf of the city council, stated: "The Household Support Fund has now transitioned into the Crisis Resilience Fund. The enquiry and application process will remain the same as HSF."
- If you or anyone in your household have received an HSF payment within the past 12 months, you will not be eligible, and your enquiry form will be rejected.
- If you are not currently in receipt of any support services including Universal Credit, you may still be eligible.
- Successful enquiries since May 1, 2026, have been added to a waiting list; a local team member will contact you within 6-8 weeks to complete your full application.
Cash payments for the summer period have been confirmed by Chancellor Rachel Reeves. The fund aims to provide vital support to households facing financial hardship.
