The Met Office has forecast scorching temperatures exceeding 30C in 25 UK locations on Bank Holiday Monday, with the mercury potentially hitting 33C in some regions. England is expected to experience the hottest weather, while western Scotland and Northern Ireland will see cooler, cloudier conditions.
Weather Outlook for Monday
According to the Met Office, southern England and the Midlands could reach 33C. Deputy Chief Forecaster Steve Kocher said: "Temperatures will climb through the weekend, especially in the south, where 30°C is likely on Saturday and 32°C on Sunday. Temperatures are forecast to peak on Monday when we could see 33°C in southern England and the Midlands." He added that May and spring UK temperature records are likely to be broken, surpassing the existing record of 32.8°C. Most of the UK will enjoy dry, sunny weather, but Northern Ireland and western Scotland will have more cloud and some showers, with low cloud and sea fog near western coasts.
Heatwave Conditions and Health Alerts
The hottest May day on record was 32.8°C at Camden Square on 22 May 1922, and subsequently at Horsham, Tunbridge Wells and Regent's Park on 29 May 1944. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued amber health alerts for the southeast and the Midlands, warning of potential health risks. Many parts of England are expected to meet heatwave criteria, with temperatures above 26-28°C for three consecutive days.
