Solihull Planners Defer Olton Home Decision After Residents Demand Site Visit

Solihull Council's planning committee has deferred a decision on a controversial four-bedroom house proposal in Olton after heated opposition from residents.

Proposal Details

Warmthhomes applied to build a detached home on garden land behind 29 Ulverley Crescent, sparking 12 objection letters from neighbours and ward councillor James Bradley.

Residents raised concerns about "overdevelopment" and the scheme being "out of character" for the area. Kiran Sharma, speaking for local residents, told the committee: "This patch of land has been used as a back garden for over 40 years."

Councillor's Concerns

Coun Bradley said the property "doesn't really fit the streetscene" and would "basically just sit on its own in a car park."

Tensions boiled over when a member of the public interrupted the meeting, shouting that Fenton Court residents hadn't been allowed to speak before storming out calling it a "farce".

Committee Decision

Councillors unanimously voted to defer the decision pending a site visit. The matter could return to committee on June 17 if the visit takes place soon.
