Russell Brand Faces Two New Rape and Sexual Assault Charges
Russell Brand Charged with Further Rape and Assault

Russell Brand, the former comedian and actor, is now confronting two additional criminal charges for rape and sexual assault, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has confirmed.

New Allegations from 2009

The Metropolitan Police announced that Russell Brand, 50, from Oxfordshire, has been charged with one further count of rape and another count of sexual assault. These new allegations involve two additional women and relate to separate reports of non-recent offences said to have occurred in 2009.

These fresh charges come on top of a series of existing allegations already filed against Brand. In April 2025, he was charged with two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault. Those earlier charges concern alleged offences between 1999 and 2005 and involve four different women.

CPS Statement and Court Date

Lionel Idan, Chief Crown Prosecutor for the CPS, stated: "Today the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised two further charges of rape and sexual assault against Russell Brand." He emphasised that prosecutors had determined there was sufficient evidence and that pursuing further proceedings was in the public interest.

Brand is now scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court on January 20 to face these new charges. The CPS has issued a strong reminder that criminal proceedings are active and that the defendant has a right to a fair trial, urging the public and media to avoid any commentary that could prejudice the case.

Ongoing Police Investigation and Support

Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi of the Metropolitan Police, who is leading the investigation, confirmed the inquiry remains ongoing. "The women who have made reports, including those connected to the two new charges, continue to receive support from specially trained officers," he said.

The police have encouraged anyone else affected or with information to come forward, providing a dedicated email contact: CIT@met.police.uk. Support is also available through the independent charity Rape Crisis via the 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line.

Brand has consistently and vehemently denied all allegations against him. Following a joint investigation by The Sunday Times and Channel 4 Dispatches last year, he asserted that all his relationships were consensual. He previously expressed on social media platform X, to his millions of followers, his desire for the opportunity to prove his innocence.
