The Junior and Mini Great Birmingham Run will take place this Saturday (May 2) at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. Youngsters are set to take to the tracks at Alexander Stadium in Perry Barr as the stadium welcomes Birmingham's Junior and Mini run event this weekend. The Junior and Mini Great Birmingham Run forms part of the wider Great Birmingham Run programme, which continues to attract thousands of runners across all age groups.
When does it start?
The event will be held at Alexander Stadium on Saturday (May 2). Doors will open at 8am ahead of races at 9am.
What will participants do?
Young runners are encouraged to take part in superhero fancy dress for the popular annual event. Children aged three to eight will complete a 1.5km mini course, while juniors aged nine to 15 will tackle a longer 2.5km route. Organisers say the inclusive format is designed to promote fun, fitness, and confidence among younger participants. All participants will receive official finishing times and will be able to access their results and event photographs after crossing the line in the AJ Bell-sponsored race.
Do I have to run with my child?
According to the AJ Bell website, all mini entrants (aged 3-8) must run with a parent, and each child should be entered into the event. All entrants of the Mini event are sent an Adult bib in their race pack, which is for the accompanying adult to wear on race day. Junior entrants do not need to be accompanied by an adult, although this can be requested upon entry if required. Each child should be entered into the event. Family run entry is per person (each adult and child). Entrants aged 3-8 must run with a parent, and accompanying adults also need to enter.
Are the races timed?
Entrants of the Junior event are sent a race number with a timing chip attached to the back, so we can provide finish times for runners. The Mini event (ages 3-8) is not chip timed; it is a fun run for the younger runners.
How will this affect travel in the area?
On-site parking will be available for attendees, with access via Church Road. Families are being advised to plan ahead for arrival times given expected congestion around the venue during peak morning hours.
How can my children take part next year?
With entries for 2026 now fully sold out, organisers are encouraging those who missed out to register early interest for the 2027 event, as demand for places continues to grow year on year. To enquire, visit the AJ Bell website.
