Aston Villa are set to make a decision on Douglas Luiz, but a permanent transfer from Juventus appears unlikely. The Brazilian midfielder has spent the season on loan at Villa Park, but the club is not expected to exercise its option to buy him for around £23 million.
Mixed season for Luiz
Luiz has been a useful squad player for Unai Emery's side, but he has not delivered the consistency and quality that Villa hoped for. With Ross Barkley previously preferred and Youri Tielemans now back from injury, a permanent deal is in doubt. The £23 million fee could arguably be spent in better areas of the squad.
Juventus left with unwanted player
According to CalcioMercato, Villa's failure to make the deal permanent would leave Juventus with an unsettled player of high value who has two failed loan spells behind him. Luiz's future is now uncertain, and Villa are unlikely to push for a permanent move.
