Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has stated that Harry Wilson would be an ideal addition to Unai Emery's system at Aston Villa, as the club is reportedly interested in the Fulham winger.
Contract Situation and Form
Wilson is approaching the end of his contract at Fulham and is expected to be available on a free transfer this summer. The Welsh international has had his most productive Premier League season to date, netting 10 goals and providing six assists. He joined Fulham from Liverpool in July 2021 for £12 million on a five-year deal and is currently enjoying the best form of his career.
Interest from Clubs
Both Aston Villa and Everton have been linked with a move for Wilson ahead of the summer transfer window. Agbonlahor expressed his hope that the winger would choose Villa Park.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor said: "Very good footballer. There's talk that maybe Aston Villa sign him on a free transfer. Twenty-nine years of age, suits Aston Villa this summer because I'm not sure they'll have big, big money to spend. Free transfer, not ridiculous wages as well. Ten goals, six assists so far this season in the Premier League, some screamers as well."
Fit in Emery's System
Agbonlahor believes Wilson fits perfectly into Emery's style of play. "He fits into that Aston Villa style, even if he plays off one of the wings, sometimes they come in. McGinn does, as we've seen Rogers do, or Buendia. Harvey Elliott will obviously go back to Liverpool, so Aston Villa will probably be left with Buendia who has had some good games but he's not consistent."
He added that playing under Emery and competing for titles in the Champions League would be a "no-brainer" for Wilson. "If you're Harry Wilson, it's a no-brainer because if he tries to look at maybe a Liverpool... Chelsea, but maybe a Liverpool, maybe he doesn't start enough games. But at Aston Villa, he will get more starts. I think that move makes sense for him and Aston Villa."
