Birmingham City have opened the window for season ticket renewal with prices increased from last season, prompting mixed reactions from fans. The club has now released further information regarding their renewal plans and explained the pricing and communication strategy that drew criticism from some supporters.
Renewal Window Opens
Blues announced on Tuesday evening that the window for renewing would open on the morning of Wednesday, April 29. Since then, more than 1,500 fans renewed in the first three hours alone. They did so with price rises across the board, with some modest increases in certain areas of the ground but much higher rises in others.
That prompted fan group Blues Trust to issue a statement lamenting both the rise and the lack of consultation. However, Blues have this evening moved to clarify the situation and have also released the full pricing grid.
Club Statement on Pricing
On their website, they said: “Our ambition is to compete with the best, for the biggest prizes and deliver remarkable experiences for our fans. This informs and guides all the decisions that we make across the club, including Season Ticket pricing. All Season Ticket holders were informed of the price of their individual and/or family tickets yesterday evening. It was important to share this information directly with each supporter as the pricing is specific to their situation. Our approach to these Season Ticket prices is based on treating all supporters equally, fairly and standardising concession discounts across the whole stadium.”
Standardised Concessions
Historically, seniors, 16-24s and U16s have benefitted from different discounts based on where they were situated in the stadium. There was no logic to this. The club has therefore standardised the concession discounts this year so that each concession group gets the same discount from the full adult price. For example, senior discounts ranged from 20% to 42%. Therefore, for the 2026-27 season, the club has standardised the ticket discount for seniors at 30%. For other concession tickets, they have standardised 16-24 at 40% and juniors at 70% (excluding Arthur’s Area).
The club believes this is the fairest way to treat all supporters and that their season tickets deliver great value, with many continuing to be priced lower than most other Championship clubs. They added: “While this means that some supporters will see a bigger percentage increase in the price of their Season Ticket for the coming season, it brings them in line with all other supporters which we believe is the right approach.”
Blue Light Discount Discontinued
Blues also confirmed that the Blue Light discount, introduced two years ago, has been discontinued on the basis that the stadium is now full, with average attendances exceeding 27,000. They continue: “We believe that a standardised price for all supporters is the fairest way forward. During the upcoming season, the club will be creating game specific pricing offers to the Blue Light community.”
The club also referenced having ‘constructive dialogue’ with the Official Supporters' Club. Chief commercial officer Jon Grimes said: “Our 20,000 Season Ticket holders are central to everything we’re building at Blues. That’s why it’s essential we treat each of them fairly. We’ve now standardised pricing across the stadium and are delighted to offer strong value once again to our most loyal supporters. Despite the challenging economic environment and increased costs, we’ve ensured our pricing remains competitive with other Championship clubs.”
Specific Price Changes
Adult tickets in the Tilton Upper have gone from £450 to £475, and the safe-standing section of the Tilton Lower has gone from £435 to £465.
