Chris Davies Details Birmingham City Transfer Strategy After Keshi Anderson Exit
Davies Explains Birmingham's Plan After Anderson Departure

Birmingham City manager Chris Davies has moved to reassure supporters after the club's decision to mutually terminate the contract of winger Keshi Anderson this week, confirming a replacement is being actively sought.

Explaining the Anderson Decision

The 30-year-old attacker was originally under contract at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park until the summer, but a premature agreement was reached, confirmed publicly on Wednesday, 14th January 2026. Anderson, who was a standout performer in League One last season with seven goals and five assists, struggled to make the same impact in the Championship, scoring just once in 17 appearances this term.

Davies addressed the timing, which raised eyebrows given a calf injury to Demarai Gray, stating the club has the situation in hand. "We are trying to mould the squad to what’s best for the rest of this season and beyond," the Blues boss explained. He added that the move also considered players' desires for more regular football.

Transfer Window Plans Confirmed

Davies was clear that Birmingham are working to bolster their ranks before the January window closes. "We’re not far away with players that are hopefully coming in," he revealed, aiming to quell fears over squad depth. He assured fans the club would not be left short, saying, "What we won’t be by the end of January is short of numbers. We will have covered those positions."

The manager also paid tribute to Anderson, wishing him well for the future and acknowledging his contributions in the previous campaign.

Dykes Makes Permanent Charlton Move

Anderson was not the only departure this week, as striker Lyndon Dykes completed a permanent transfer to Charlton Athletic for an undisclosed fee. The 30-year-old Scotland international spent 18 months with Birmingham, often as an impact substitute, and scored some crucial goals, including a 98th-minute winner at Blackburn Rovers this past August.

Despite battling injuries during his stint, Dykes remained a model professional. His move to Charlton, who often utilise a two-striker system, offers him a fresh chance for more consistent playing time.

As the January window progresses, Chris Davies and Birmingham City's recruitment team are now focused on executing their plan to reshape the squad for the Championship challenges ahead.
