Chris Davies addresses Keshi Anderson exit and makes Birmingham City transfer promise
Davies on Anderson exit and Blues transfer promise

Birmingham City manager Chris Davies has broken his silence on the sudden departure of winger Keshi Anderson, while assuring supporters that the club's squad will be fully reinforced before the January transfer window shuts.

Anderson's Contract Terminated by Mutual Consent

Blues confirmed on Wednesday that Keshi Anderson's contract had been cancelled by mutual consent, bringing his time at St Andrew's to an abrupt end. The 29-year-old was a pivotal figure in the club's League One title-winning campaign last season, contributing nine goals and eight assists across all competitions, a haul that saw him come close to winning the Player of the Year award.

However, Anderson struggled to replicate that form in the Championship this season, leading to the decision to part ways six months before his deal was originally set to expire. Fellow promotion winner Lyndon Dykes has also recently left, signing for Charlton Athletic.

Davies Wishes Departing Winger Well

Speaking about the exit, Davies was full of praise for Anderson's past contributions. "We wish Keshi well for the future," said the Blues head coach. "He was a good player for us in League One. This season he obviously hasn't played as much, from my side I absolutely wish him all the best for the future."

The timing of the move has raised questions, given Birmingham's current shortage of wide options with Demarai Gray sidelined by a calf injury. Davies addressed this directly, explaining the club's broader strategy.

Blues Boss Promises Squad Reinforcements

"From our point of view, we are trying to mould the squad to what's best for the rest of this season and beyond," Davies stated. He acknowledged that some players, like Anderson, are seeking more regular football. "We are trying to look at everything and see what we need."

Crucially, Davies gave a firm promise regarding the club's activity in the transfer market. "We're not far away with players that are hopefully coming in so I don't think there'll be a big change," he revealed. "What we won't be by the end of January is short of numbers. We will have covered those positions, it's just in the interim period."

This pledge comes after a deal for winger Abdoulie Manneh collapsed earlier in the week, confirming that Birmingham City remain actively in the market for attacking reinforcements as they look to solidify their Championship status.
