Warnock: Villa Need Three January Signings to Sustain Title Push
Ex-Villa Star Warns of Triple January Transfer Need

Former Aston Villa star Stephen Warnock has issued a clear transfer instruction to the club's hierarchy, stating that three new signings are essential in January if they are to sustain a genuine challenge for the Premier League title.

Warnock's Triple Transfer Demand

With the winter transfer window opening on Thursday, the 29th of December 2025, Warnock believes manager Unai Emery must act decisively to bolster his squad. Speaking to aceodds.com, the ex-left-back pinpointed defence, midfield, and attack as the key areas requiring reinforcement.

"I think the big thing is what they can do in January. Can they buy players? They need other strikers in the building," Warnock stated. "They need more options. Ideally they probably need a new defender, a new midfielder and a new attacker if they could."

Injury Fears Threaten Villa's Brilliant Form

Warnock's warning comes despite Villa's spectacular run of form, which currently stands at 11 consecutive victories in all competitions. Their latest win, a 2-1 triumph over Chelsea, sets up a crucial clash with league leaders Arsenal where a victory would draw them level on points at the summit.

However, the pundit highlighted the potential pitfalls of a demanding second half of the season. He expressed concern that the existing squad depth may not be sufficient to cope with inevitable injuries and suspensions, especially with European football adding to the fixture load.

"If they pick up injuries or suspensions, it's going to be very tough for them," he cautioned. "You just wonder with European football and the Premier League, can he manage it and really stay within those top four positions."

Balancing Title Dreams with Realistic Aims

While acknowledging the remarkable job done by Unai Emery, whom he described as "magnificent," Warnock suggested that a top-four finish and a return to the Champions League might be a more realistic and still outstanding achievement for the club.

"People are talking about a title race but I think the club as a whole would be delighted if they can get back to those Champions League positions," he added. He also noted that Emery's known preference for working with a compact, smaller squad could be tested in the coming months.

The former defender also pointed to the form of star striker Ollie Watkins as a potential concern for Emery, emphasising that consistent goal threat is vital for any team with championship aspirations. The January window now presents a critical opportunity for Aston Villa to prove they have the resources and ambition to turn a stunning first half of the season into a historic campaign.
