Nottingham Forest have been dealt a significant injury setback ahead of their Europa League semi-final clash with Aston Villa. Winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on a thigh injury.
Player Confirms Surgery
Hudson-Odoi took to social media to share images of himself in a hospital bed. In an Instagram post, he stated: “Surgery was successful but definitely not the way I wanted to end the season but with God’s timing and plan hopefully I’ll be back stronger and better than before. Thank you for your continued support always and the messages, I appreciate all the love and let’s get this recovery started so I can get back out there doing what I love!! No Pain No Gain.”
Club Statement
Forest had earlier provided an update on the winger's condition. In a statement, the club said: “Nottingham Forest can confirm that Callum Hudson-Odoi suffered an injury to his right quadriceps muscle in our Europa League Quarter Final fixture against FC Porto last Thursday. Following further specialist consultation, the winger has undergone surgery today and will commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff immediately. Callum is expected to return to full training during the pre-season period and everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery.”
Further Injury Concerns
Forest are also anxious about the fitness of key defender Murillo, who was forced off with an injury during the match against Burnley on Sunday. When asked about Murillo, Forest boss Vitor Pereira said post-match: “I don’t know. I spoke to him and he said he thinks it is not serious. I hope.”
Impact on Europa League Campaign
Hudson-Odoi's absence is a major blow for Forest as they prepare to face Aston Villa in the semi-finals of the Europa League. The winger has been a key contributor this season, and his creativity and pace will be missed. The club will now rely on other squad members to step up in his absence.
Forest fans will be hoping that Murillo's injury proves minor, as the defender has been instrumental in their defensive solidity. The team will need to be at full strength to overcome a strong Aston Villa side in the two-legged tie.
