Birmingham City have confirmed the departure of striker Lyndon Dykes, who has joined fellow Championship side Charlton Athletic in a January transfer deal.
Dykes Seeks Regular Football Ahead of World Cup
The 30-year-old Scottish international leaves St Andrew's with the aim of securing regular first-team football in the second half of the season. Dykes has aspirations to start for Scotland at next summer's World Cup, a key factor in his decision to move on.
This transfer marks the second exit of a League One title winner from the club in quick succession, following the release of Keshi Anderson on Wednesday. Dykes had been close to a move to Hibernian at the end of the summer transfer window, but Charlton have now provided him with a platform in the second tier.
A Blues Spell with Memorable Moments
During his time with Birmingham, Dykes made a total of 55 appearances for the club. This season, he featured 21 times in the Championship, contributing several crucial goals.
His notable moments in a blue shirt include dramatic stoppage-time winners against Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City this campaign. Perhaps most memorably, Dykes scored the goal that sent Birmingham to Wembley for the Vertu Trophy final in February of last year.
Immediate Reunion on the Calendar
Dykes will not have to wait long to face his former teammates. He is set to come up against Birmingham City when Charlton host them at The Valley on March 7, ensuring an early reunion in the Championship fixture list.
The move concludes Dykes' stint at the club as manager Tony Mowbray reshapes his squad during the January transfer window.
