Matty Cash Reveals Two Summer Offers and Why He Stayed at Aston Villa
Matty Cash: Two summer offers, why I stayed at Villa

Aston Villa's in-form defender, Matty Cash, has made a revealing admission about the recent summer transfer window, confirming he received two concrete offers to leave the club.

Loyalty to Villa and Emery Proves Decisive

Despite the tempting opportunities, the Poland international insisted his focus never wavered from extending his stay at Villa Park. Cash, who joined the club from Nottingham Forest for £16 million in 2020, credited his strong relationship with manager Unai Emery as a pivotal reason for his commitment.

He recently signed a new contract that will keep him at the West Midlands club until the summer of 2029. ESPN reported that one of the interested clubs was his former side, Nottingham Forest. Cash told the outlet, "I had two offers from different clubs in the summer but I never really focused on that. My main priority is to stay at Villa."

From Villa Stalwart to Social Media Exit

Cash is now on the cusp of a major club milestone, with 196 appearances for Villa, making him likely to become just the 53rd player in the club's history to reach the 200-game mark.

His performances this season have been standout, making him one of the league's most in-form right-backs. He scored Villa's first league goal of the season against Sunderland and netted the winner against Manchester City.

However, the defender also opened up about the darker side of football fame, revealing he temporarily quit social media following the backlash from a challenge on Tottenham's Rodrigo Bentancur in November 2023.

"I did actually delete social media that week because it was quite bad," Cash admitted, while stressing that he never intended to injure the Uruguayan midfielder. "I just blocked it out and thought 'I didn't mean the tackle.'"

Looking Ahead with Villa and Poland

Cash is currently on international duty with Poland, who are preparing for crucial matches against the Netherlands and Malta. Looking forward, his future remains firmly with Aston Villa, where he believes there is still more to achieve.

"I think Villa's a great club, I've done a lot of work there obviously over the years to progress as a player and I still think there's a lot more to go to be honest," he said, clearly content with his decision to reject the summer offers and commit his long-term future to the club.
