Morrison backs Wallace's contribution amid contract call

James Morrison has insisted that Jed Wallace can be happy with his contribution to West Bromwich Albion's survival, as a decision looms over the winger's future at the club. The Albion skipper's contract is set to expire this summer.

Wallace, who joined Albion on a free transfer from Millwall in 2022, made his return to the squad on Saturday for the final game of the season. He battled back from injury to come off the bench as Albion closed out the campaign with a 2-1 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

Contract Situation

Wallace signed a four-year deal when he arrived at the club, which expires this summer. He is one of several attacking players whose contracts are up, including Daryl Dike, Josh Maja, and Karlan Grant. Morrison has refused to be drawn on specifics regarding the out-of-contract players, repeating that stance after the defeat in Yorkshire.

However, the Baggies boss did go on to say that Wallace can be satisfied with his contribution to Albion's end-of-season run that ensured survival. Morrison stated: “There is a process and talks at the end of the season are ongoing. I can’t give an answer yet but Jed has been a brilliant servant. He was probably one of the driving forces early on in this little run, we had performances that were like the Jed Wallace of old really, and he can be happy with that.”

Need for Change

Despite not giving specifics on the out-of-contract players, Morrison insisted there is a need for change this summer given where Albion have ended the season. He added: “It needs to change because we’re not happy with this season. We have got to continue to improve and that will be the case. I know what is needed, I think the club know and we will be working hard to get that right.”
