The moment a man struck a police officer in the face with a dropped baton has been captured on video. The incident occurred on Friday morning, July 3, on Soho Road in Handsworth.

Footage Shows Struggle and Assault

Video footage online shows two officers struggling to subdue a man on the ground. Officers are heard shouting at the man to 'get on the floor' and 'stop resisting'. The man protests that he 'can't see' before being threatened with a taser by one officer.

During the struggle, a police baton drops to the ground. The man immediately picks up the baton and swears 'get the f*** off me' at the officers. He then swings the baton at one officer before hitting the other in the face, causing him to be knocked down.

Suspect Escapes on Bike

With the officer on the ground, the man escapes on a bike and heads down Soho Road in the direction of Birmingham. The assaulted officer was taken to hospital but later discharged.

Police Appeal

Today, July 4, West Midlands Police issued an appeal for information. Mahroy Stephenson, aged 30, from Bartley Green, is wanted on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
