Wolves manager Rob Edwards has insisted that the club's current struggles in the Premier League will make the good times "more rewarding" when they eventually arrive. The Old Gold are winless in five matches following a 1-1 draw against 10-man Sunderland at Molineux on Saturday.
Edwards' side fell behind early but fought back to secure a point, halting a run of three consecutive defeats. However, the result extended their winless streak to five games, leaving the team in a precarious position. Since taking over, Edwards has managed just five wins in 27 matches, suffering 15 losses in the process.
Despite the poor form, the 43-year-old remains optimistic about the future. "I knew at some stage we were probably going to be in this sort of situation now," Edwards said. "It is weird, you know, why do we put ourselves through it? At times you do think, like, why do we do it? But it will be all the more rewarding when we are able to turn things around."
Edwards highlighted the positive feedback he has received from fellow coaches and managers. "We're still the same people, we're still doing a lot of good work, it's funny you know, you go up against all the coaches and the other managers and they're all so positive about how we've done - because they understand the situation that we've been in."
However, he acknowledged that results are what ultimately matter. "But that doesn't matter it's about winning football matches in the end and we haven't done that in the last four games, we've lost three and drawn one. So it's understandable, but we've just got to stay strong and take it at the moment."
Edwards pointed to past successes as evidence of the team's potential. "People are happy when we beat Villa, we beat Liverpool, we came back against Arsenal, you know, and done the same against Brentford, so there were some good things there. We came back today, we showed some fight, we didn't go under and then we got to continue to work hard."
