Villa's £10m Rookie Faces Race Against Time After Injury

Aston Villa's young winger Alysson has reportedly suffered another training ground injury, casting doubt on his availability for the remainder of the season. According to The Athletic, the Brazilian picked up a thigh problem and now faces a race against time to feature again this campaign.

Latest Setback for Alysson

Citing sources close to the player, the report claims the issue affects his adductor muscle. However, there is a glimmer of hope that the 20-year-old could be available for Villa's trip to Manchester City on May 24. This latest setback is said to be his fourth injury since joining the club in January for around £10 million from Gremio.

Alysson has made only three Premier League appearances for Villa, totalling just 47 minutes off the bench against Brighton, Chelsea, and Wolves. His last appearance was on March 4, and he has been sidelined since.

Emery's Previous Update

On April 10, Villa manager Unai Emery suggested the winger was making progress towards a return. Emery said: "Alysson is starting to train with the group as well, progressively getting better." However, this new injury could effectively end his first half-season at the club.

Villa have used John McGinn, Jadon Sancho, and Leon Bailey on the right flank this season, providing cover in Alysson's absence.
