West Brom Manager Emphasizes Fan Support Requires Minimum Effort
West Bromwich Albion's recent improvement in form has been accompanied by significant backing from both home and away supporters, who have endured a challenging season with little to celebrate.
Head coach James Morrison has informed his players that Albion fans will unite in support if they observe the bare minimum work ethic from the squad.
Morrison's Personal Experience with Fan Loyalty
The 39-year-old former midfielder, who suffered two Premier League relegations with the club in 2009 and 2018, spoke from personal experience about the unwavering support of the Baggies faithful.
Morrison recalled being applauded off the pitch even after relegation, highlighting the deep connection between the team and its supporters.
The Hawthorns faithful have demonstrated their commitment to backing Albion in recent weeks, despite fears of Championship relegation looming large.
Recent Turnaround and Fan Response
Under Morrison's leadership, the team has embarked on a four-match unbeaten run, starting with a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane on March 7.
The manager noted that he felt a genuine connection with fans after that match, which has continued to grow.
Away supporters have responded positively, with 3,200 fans cheering a victory at Bristol City and approximately 7,400 expected to travel to Blackburn next Monday.
Morrison's Message to the Players
"We all want the same outcome and we're working really hard," Morrison stated, emphasizing unity within the club.
He added, "I've asked us to be together. But I felt the connection with the fans after Sheffield United, when we were on the pitch, I've felt it ever since."
The boss stressed that it is ultimately up to the players to display the fight and determination he has been advocating, which will in turn galvanize fan support.
Current Season Context
James Morrison began his caretaker stint with a loss at relegation rivals Oxford but has remained unbeaten in four matches since being appointed until the end of the season.
West Brom return to action after the international break with a home fixture against promotion-chasing Wrexham at The Hawthorns on Good Friday.
This match marks the first of seven remaining games, with Morrison's squad currently holding a four-point cushion above the Championship relegation zone.
