Wolverhampton Wanderers have finalised a deal to send midfielder Marshall Munetsi on loan to French Ligue 1 side Paris FC for the remainder of the campaign.
Midfielder Seeks Minutes After Falling Out of Favour
The move, confirmed on 15th January 2026, sees the 29-year-old Zimbabwe international depart Molineux temporarily. Munetsi joined Wolves for a fee of around £17.5 million from Stade de Reims in the winter of 2025, initially making a strong impression as a physical presence in the engine room.
However, his technical limitations became apparent in the Premier League, and with the club keen to free up a valuable non-homegrown squad spot, he was deemed surplus to requirements. The loan provides him with the opportunity for regular first-team football.
Deal Details and Pereira's Past Praise
Paris FC will cover all of Munetsi's wages and pay a small loan fee, but the agreement does not include an option to make the transfer permanent. The player is scheduled to undergo a medical imminently to complete the switch.
The departure marks a downturn in a signing that was very much tailored to former head coach Vitor Pereira. Pereira frequently praised Munetsi's relentless work ethic and stamina, often selecting him in his starting line-up.
Following a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the season, Pereira told Birmingham World: "Munetsi is like an animal. Running and running and running... I know what I can expect from him. For us, this is the kind of player – a very honest player giving everything for the club – that we need to support."
Implications for Wolves' Transfer Plans
While the loan's lack of a permanent option may be viewed as controversial given the initial investment, it serves a clear strategic purpose for Wolves. By moving Munetsi on, the Old Gold free up a non-homegrown squad place, granting them significantly more freedom in the January transfer market.
This allows the club's recruitment team to pursue at least one overseas target they may otherwise have been forced to reject due to Premier League squad registration rules.
