Wolves have issued a statement regarding an incident where a fan was hit by falling metal during a Premier League match at Molineux. The club confirmed that inspections and repairs will be carried out in the coming days.
Incident Details
The shocking event occurred during Saturday's 1–1 draw against Sunderland AFC. A section of the South Bank had to be partially evacuated after a piece of metal fell from a PA system mounted under the stand's roof. The object struck a supporter, who was treated inside the ground for minor injuries but did not require hospital care. As a precaution, around 200 fans were relocated at half-time, leaving a visible gap in the stand for the remainder of the match.
Club Statement
The club has now issued a statement saying “any necessary inspections and repairs” will take place in the coming days. A Wolves spokesman said: “We are aware of an incident at the match where a fixing from a speaker on the roof of the Sir Jack Hayward Stand became dislodged and made contact with a supporter. The individual was immediately assisted by our safety team and received prompt treatment from on-site medical staff. Thankfully, the supporter was able to return home after receiving care. As a precautionary measure, the surrounding area was cleared of supporters at half-time. Any necessary inspections and repairs will be carried out in the coming days.”
The club has not specified a timeline for the inspections, but emphasized that fan safety remains a priority. Wolves and Sunderland AFC have not commented further on the matter.
