Walking Football Initiative Launches in Cefn Mawr for Residents Aged 50 and Over
Residents in Cefn Mawr and nearby areas are encouraged to lace up their trainers as a brand-new Walking Football program kicks off this February. Starting on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, the sessions are tailored specifically for men and women aged 50 and above, providing a perfect blend of physical activity and social engagement in a supportive setting.
Community Collaboration Drives Project Success
The initiative has been brought to life through a collaborative community effort, with key support from several local organisations. Organisers have expressed heartfelt thanks to Liam Jones, Active Wrexham, Sian Brierely, Wrexham Council, and the NHS NERS Referral Scheme for their crucial contributions in making these sessions a reality.
What Participants Can Look Forward To
Whether you are a former football player eager to return to the game or a complete novice, the Walking Football sessions prioritise friendly play and social interaction. Key highlights include:
- Expert Coaching: Sessions are led by community agent Donna Thornley and UEFA B Qualified community development officer Andrew Ruscoe, ensuring professional guidance.
- Health Focus: The relaxed pace is designed to enhance both physical fitness and mental wellbeing, promoting a positive "headspace" without the intensity of sprinting.
- Social Atmosphere: Expect great laughs and opportunities to forge new friendships within the local community, fostering a welcoming environment for all.
Affordable Access and Special Offers
To encourage widespread participation, the project is offering an attractive introductory deal: the first four weeks are completely free for new players. For those joining later, the initial session remains free, with a nominal fee of just £3 per player for subsequent sessions, making it accessible to everyone.
