Anthony Joshua 'in pain everywhere' after fatal Nigeria car crash
Anthony Joshua injured in fatal Nigeria car crash

Former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua is reportedly suffering from pain "everywhere" following a devastating car crash in Nigeria that resulted in the deaths of two of his close friends and team members.

Details of the Tragic Accident

The accident occurred on Monday morning on a busy motorway in Nigeria. Joshua was travelling in a Lexus Jeep when it collided with a stationary lorry. Nigerian police have indicated that a tyre blowout, likely caused by excessive speed, was the reason for the crash.

While Joshua survived the collision, two other passengers in the vehicle did not. The victims have been identified as Kevin Ayodele, Joshua's personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach of over ten years. Both were described as vital members of the boxer's inner circle.

Joshua's Condition and Hospital Treatment

Contrary to initial reports suggesting the 36-year-old was doing well, sources now reveal a more serious picture. Joshua is said to have exclaimed "I feel pain all over my body" and screamed in agony, particularly from knee pain, as he was extracted from the wreckage of the 4x4.

He was taken to a private hospital in Lagos for treatment. Medical examinations confirmed he sustained minor injuries with no broken bones, but he is expected to remain in hospital until after the New Year. Nigeria's President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, confirmed he spoke with both Joshua and the boxer's mother, who travelled to be at her son's bedside.

Potential Career Impact and Family Reaction

Insiders close to the situation are concerned that the combined physical and psychological trauma could jeopardise Joshua's planned boxing schedule for the coming year. A highly-anticipated potential bout against British rival Tyson Fury is now in serious doubt.

Joshua's uncle, Adedamola Joshua, expressed the family's shock and difficulty in locating the champion due to security concerns surrounding his status. He stated the incident had jolted their Sagamu community, where Joshua frequently visits family.

Tributes have poured in for the deceased. Eddie Hearn, chairman of Joshua's promotional company Matchroom, posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, saying: "With the heaviest of hearts... Two great men. Rest in eternal peace Sina and Latz."
