A brand new endurance event is set to take place in North Yorkshire this summer, as participants from across the UK prepare to take on the North Yorks Ultra Challenge for the very first time.
Event Details
Taking place on June 20 and 21, 2026, the event will see thousands of walkers, joggers, and runners head to Scarborough, which will act as the event’s basecamp for a spectacular coastal and moorland challenge. Participants can choose from distances ranging from 100km, 50km, 25km, and 10 miles, following a stunning circular route that showcases some of North Yorkshire’s most iconic scenery.
Route Highlights
Starting from Scarborough’s seafront, the route heads north along the Cleveland Way, passing through Robin Hood Bay and on to the historic seaside town of Whitby, famous for its abbey and links to Captain Cook. For those taking on the full 100km challenge, the second half heads inland through the Esk Valley and North York Moors, before looping back to Scarborough via forest trails and rolling countryside.
Participation Options
With options to complete the challenge solo or as part of a team, the event is open to all abilities, from seasoned ultra-endurance athletes to first-time challengers looking to push themselves further. Most participants walk the event, while some will run the full distance, and others mix the two together.
Impact and Fundraising
As a brand-new addition to the Ultra Challenge Series, organisers are expecting strong interest, with the event set to bring a boost to local tourism and hospitality businesses across Scarborough, Whitby, and surrounding coastal communities as participants and supporters travel into the region. Participants will also be raising funds for a wide range of charities, with the event continuing to be a popular choice for fundraising efforts across the UK. Recent Ultra Challenge events have raised as much as £1.3 million.
Support and Safety
The organisers, Ultra Challenge, take great pride in ensuring the highest level of support for participants, with industry-leading rest stops, medical teams, and fully marked routes providing a safe and encouraging environment throughout the course.
