Birmingham City Football Club has taken a monumental step forward, revealing breathtaking new designs for its proposed state-of-the-art stadium, 'The Powerhouse'. The landmark project promises to redefine the city's skyline and provide a world-class home for the club.
A New Landmark for Birmingham
The ambitious plans detail a 62,000-seat stadium set to be constructed in the Bordesley Green area, in the east of the city. More than just a football ground, the venue is designed to host a diverse array of sporting and entertainment events, positioning itself as a major new hub for the West Midlands.
The first official images were showcased to the public on 20th November 2025 at the Digbeth Loc Film Studios. This grand unveiling was a key part of the club's 150th-anniversary celebrations, marking a pivotal moment in its long and storied history.
Ambition and Heritage Combined
Tom Wagner, Knighthead Co-CEO and Chairman of Birmingham City, expressed the significance of the project. He stated that this is a huge milestone for the club, creating a home that mirrors their ambition to compete at the highest level of the game.
Wagner emphasised that the iconic design is a statement of intent for both Birmingham and the wider West Midlands region, signalling an area that is confidently on the rise. He explained that the stadium's aesthetic draws deeply from the region's proud industrial heritage, celebrating its history of industry, ingenuity, and growth.
He further noted his belief that these core qualities can fuel a new era of success for the club on the pitch and create prosperity for local communities that have lacked significant opportunities.
The Road to 2029
The project forms the centrepiece of the wider planned Sports Quarter development, aiming to become a vibrant destination for the community. However, Wagner has openly acknowledged that the planned completion date is very ambitious.
The club is targeting the completion of the entire project by 2029. If this timeline is met, Birmingham City intends to begin hosting its home matches at 'The Powerhouse' from the start of the 2029/30 season, ushering in a thrilling new chapter for players and fans alike.
