The Mazda CX-30 has been named the most reliable family car on UK roads, according to the latest Auto Express Driver Power survey. The small SUV achieved a 93% satisfaction score, placing it ahead of the Tesla Model 3 Mk 1 at 92% and the BMW 1 Series Mk 3 at 91%.
Survey Methodology
Auto Express asked its readers to rate the cars they currently own, focusing on reliability and overall satisfaction. The survey collects feedback from motorists across the UK to identify the most dependable vehicles on the market. According to the motoring site, “Knowing which cars or car brands are vulnerable to electrical and/or mechanical faults is highly valuable.”
Mazda's Triumph
Japanese brands traditionally dominate reliability rankings, with Toyota and Honda often leading. However, this year Mazda claimed the top spot in the family car category. Auto Express noted: “Japanese brands certainly aren’t a rarity on this list, but it’s usually Toyota or Honda claiming the honours. This year, though, it’s Mazda’s time to shine as the CX-30 small SUV is proving to be as durable with owners as it is enjoyable to drive.”
The CX-30 finished second overall in the most reliable car standings, narrowly beaten by the Toyota Aygo X. Despite this, the site emphasized that “a second-place finish and top spot in the family car class definitely isn’t something to be sniffed at.”
Performance and Owner Feedback
SUVs currently dominate reliability rankings, occupying six of the top ten positions. However, none match the Mazda CX-30 in terms of reliability and quality, according to Auto Express. The vehicle topped the Driver Power charts for braking responsiveness and ranked sixth for overall ride and handling.
Auto Express ran a CX-30 as part of its long-term test fleet for twelve months and found it to be “a little thirsty around town.” Owner feedback aligned with this, as the CX-30 ranked 40th for fuel economy and 45th for running costs. However, it scored well on other costs such as VED road tax and insurance.
Top Three Family Cars
The top three most reliable family cars in the survey are:
- Mazda CX-30 – 93% satisfaction score
- Tesla Model 3 Mk 1 – 92% satisfaction score
- BMW 1 Series Mk 3 – 91% satisfaction score
The results highlight the growing appeal of SUVs for families seeking reliability, with Mazda leading the charge. The CX-30’s combination of durability and driving enjoyment has resonated strongly with UK owners.
