Essential Maintenance Disrupts Airport Monorail Service

Birmingham Airport has announced a significant reduction in its Air-Rail Link service, which will operate with just one shuttle until February 2026. This planned maintenance work began on Monday 10th November and is expected to continue for several months, affecting the popular transport connection.

What Passengers Need to Know

The Air-Rail Link is the free monorail system that connects Birmingham Airport terminal with Birmingham International railway station and the National Exhibition Centre (NEC). Under normal circumstances, the service runs approximately every six minutes between 03:30 and 00:30 daily.

With only one shuttle now operating, passengers should anticipate longer waiting times during peak periods. Airport authorities have strongly recommended that travellers allow additional time for their journeys to account for potential delays.

Alternative Travel Options Available

For those looking to avoid potential queues, the airport has confirmed that safe walking routes remain available between the terminal and Birmingham International train station. This provides a practical alternative for passengers with limited time or those who prefer to walk rather than wait for the reduced shuttle service.

The maintenance work represents essential infrastructure improvements that will ensure the long-term reliability of the Air-Rail Link system, though it requires temporary service adjustments during the winter months.
