Birmingham Snow Forecast: Fresh Flurries Expected This Friday

Birmingham Prepares for Another Dusting of Snow as Weather Maps Signal Friday Flurries

Weather maps have indicated that Birmingham could be in for another spell of snowfall later this week, potentially marking the latest wintry episode of January. According to data from WX Charts, light snow is forecast to descend upon the city in the early hours of Friday, January 30.

Timing and Expected Accumulation of the Snowfall

The predicted snowfall is set to arrive at around 3am on Friday, with an estimated accumulation of up to 0.7 centimetres. This would represent a lighter coating compared to the significant snowfalls experienced earlier in the month, such as during Storm Goretti, which blanketed streets across Birmingham.

This upcoming snowfall would cap off a notably snowy start to the year for the city, which has already endured two distinct periods of wintry weather in January. The arrival of Storm Goretti was particularly impactful, transforming the urban landscape with a thick layer of snow.

Storm Chandra to Largely Spare Birmingham

While a third named storm of January, Storm Chandra, is expected to make landfall from tonight, bringing snow to areas further north, Birmingham is forecast to escape its most severe effects. The city is anticipated to avoid the brunt of this latest weather system, though residents should remain prepared for potential light flurries.

Heavy Rainfall Also on the Horizon

In addition to the possibility of snow, Birmingham is bracing for significant rainfall in the coming days. WX Charts predicts two periods of heavy precipitation:

  • Approximately 5.4mm of rainfall is expected at 9am on Tuesday, January 27.
  • A further 5.6mm is forecast for 12pm on Tuesday, February 3.

This combination of wintry and wet conditions underscores the variable and challenging weather patterns affecting the region as January draws to a close. Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest forecasts and travel information.
