Blue Islands Airline Collapses, Cancelling New East Midlands Route
Blue Islands Airline Collapses, East Midlands Route Axed

Regional carrier Blue Islands has ceased operations with immediate effect, entering liquidation and cancelling all scheduled flights, including a recently announced new route from East Midlands Airport.

Airline Collapse and Financial Troubles

The airline, which was established in 2001, entered liquidation last week. The collapse comes after it accumulated debts of £9.1 million owed to the government of Jersey.

All of the airline's flights have been cancelled forthwith, leaving future passengers to seek alternative arrangements. The company specialised in providing air links between several UK airports, such as East Midlands Airport, and the Channel Islands.

New Route Ambitions Dashed

Just last month, Blue Islands had publicly revealed plans to launch a new direct route between East Midlands Airport and Guernsey. This service was scheduled to commence next summer, aiming to bolster the airline's Channel Islands offerings from the Midlands hub.

When the route was announced, Mike Grimes, East Midlands Airport’s Customer Services and Planning Director, had expressed enthusiasm. He stated: “Short-hop flights to Guernsey and Jersey are very popular, offering idyllic island escapes within easy reach. We’re pleased to have more choice of how to get there available next summer, and look forward to welcoming customers for a relaxed start to their Channel Islands trips.”

What This Means for Passengers

The sudden collapse means all planned travel on Blue Islands is now void. However, passengers originally looking to travel from East Midlands Airport to Jersey will still have an option. Jet2 continues to operate its regular service to Jersey, providing a vital connection for the region.

Authorities are advising all affected customers to contact their travel agents or credit card companies to discuss refunds and alternative travel plans.
