Passengers Moved to Runway

One passenger took to social media to express frustration, stating they were moved onto the runway on what they described as one of the hottest days of the year, with no shade, water, or updates from staff. Several other travelers reported that planes were forced to circle the airport while the situation was being handled.

Airport Statement

An East Midlands Airport spokesperson confirmed the evacuation was a precautionary measure. They said: 'As a precautionary measure, we evacuated our terminal this morning after our security screening equipment highlighted a concern with a checked-in item of luggage. Investigations have now concluded that there is no risk, and we are resuming normal operations, with passengers re-entering the terminal.'

The spokesperson added: 'We apologise for any inconvenience, but the safety of our customers and staff is our number one priority.'

Operations Resume
