Free Bus Travel for Veterans and Serving Military in Worcestershire

Veterans and serving members of the Armed Forces in Worcestershire are now eligible for free bus travel across the county's commercial network and the Worcestershire on Demand service. This initiative aims to support those who have served or are currently serving in the military, provided they do not already hold a concessionary bus pass.

Eligibility and Access Requirements

To benefit from this scheme, veterans must present their Veteran Card, while serving personnel can use their military ID to access free journeys. The program officially launched on Worcestershire on Demand services from April 1 and will extend to the commercial bus network starting Monday, April 13.

Worcestershire is home to over 21,000 veterans and more than 500 regular Armed Forces personnel, making this a significant move to honor their service. The offer follows a successful trial for veterans on the Worcestershire on Demand service conducted last year, which demonstrated positive outcomes and community support.

Application Process for Veteran Cards

Individuals who left the armed forces in 2019 or later should have received a Veteran Card upon discharge. For those who served before 2019, applications are available online through the official government website. This ensures that all eligible veterans can participate in the free travel program, enhancing accessibility and recognition for their contributions.

The introduction of this scheme reflects ongoing efforts to improve public transport options for specific groups, fostering greater mobility and community integration in the Midlands region.
