Birmingham Airport Passengers Face Delays as M42 Closes for Weekend Roadworks
M42 Closure Causes Delays for Birmingham Airport Travelers

The M42 motorway near Birmingham Airport is closed in both directions for weekend roadworks, causing significant travel disruption for passengers heading to and from the airport. The closures began on Friday and are expected to remain in place until the early hours of Monday, June 29.

Northbound Closure Details

The northbound carriageway is closed between Junction 5a (A4545) and Junction 7 (M6 interchange). This affects drivers who typically use Junctions 5a or 6 to reach Birmingham Airport. Traffic monitoring service Inrix reported congestion at Junction 5a as motorists are forced to leave the motorway there.

Southbound Closure Details

Meanwhile, the southbound carriageway is closed between Junction 7 (Coleshill) and Junction 6 (A45 Coventry Road). This closure impacts those traveling south toward the airport from the M6 area.

Expected Delays

Inrix stated: "M42 Northbound closed, delays expected due to weekend roadworks until the early hours of Monday morning from J5A A4545 (Birmingham Airport) to J7A (M6 Interchange). Congestion to routes through Coleshill as traffic heads away."

For southbound, Inrix added: "M42 Southbound closed due to weekend roadworks until the early hours of Monday morning from J7 M6 J4 (Coleshill) to J6 A45 Coventry Road (Birmingham Airport / Coventry)."

Passengers are strongly advised to allow extra travel time or consider alternative transport options to avoid missing flights.
