Parts of the Midlands could experience a 'mini heatwave' this month, according to weather maps from WX Charts. The maps have revealed the exact date when temperatures are set to soar across the region.
Date of the Heat Spike
On Saturday, June 13, temperatures are forecasted to ramp up significantly. The highest temperatures that day could be felt in London, with a sweltering 30C expected. However, the Midlands will not be left out, with several areas predicted to see 26C conditions.
Temperatures Across the Midlands
Birmingham, Solihull, and Staffordshire are all set for 26C temperatures. The neighbouring Black Country could see slightly cooler conditions at 25C, according to wxcharts.com. While the hot spell is currently forecast for just one day, it could mark the arrival of a 'mini heatwave' later this month based on the statistics.
Heatwave Criteria
The Met Office has different heatwave thresholds for various parts of the UK. For a period to be classified as a heatwave, the temperature must meet the specific threshold for three consecutive days. For Staffordshire and Shropshire, the threshold is 26C, while the West Midlands threshold is 27C. In comparison, some parts of the South East of England have a threshold of 28C.
This means that towns and villages in Staffordshire, where 26C is predicted, could meet 'mini heatwave' conditions. This includes areas near the West Midlands border such as Tamworth and Essington.
Met Office Long-Range Forecast
In its long-range weather forecast from June 6 to 15, the Met Office stated: 'Changeable early in this period with Atlantic frontal systems moving across the UK. These will bring showers or longer spells of rain at times, with wettest conditions in the northwest, driest in the southeast. Strong winds may affect parts of the UK at times, especially the northwest.'
The forecast added: 'Later in the period, higher pressure and more settled conditions may begin to become more prevalent, especially in the south. Temperatures are likely to be near normal overall.'
